This is an improved version of our standard SOT-M18R, which now uses the original "N" shaped British-style high grade "Silcor" laminations to give the transformer the most perfect "vintage" tone. These are wound on SRB Paper bobbins together with acid-free insulation material, and will fit in almost all Marshall® 18 watt amplifier chassis available on the market. This transformer is painstakingly made to the "blueprint" of the RadioSpares EL84 output transformer, including the original 29 gauge (0.014") "Super Silcor" laminations. You won't find these in any other 18 Watt "clone" OT, and nothing else gives you the same original "Vintage Sound".

The unity coupled output transformers are designed so that with the combination of the interstage transformer and only two output tubes, it could deliver 75-90 watts (depending on the tube and anode supply voltage) starting at 25-30Hz up to 25-28KHz at full power without using any feedback. The secondary winding has a surface of 3.5 square mm, calculated and optimized for 6 Ohms and it will drive speakers easily between 4 and 8, even 16 Ohms. Why is that so? The answer is in unity coupled topology, which uses the anodes and as well as the cathodes of the output tubes as the source impedance, reducing the transformer primary impedance by factor of 4. It is well known fact that almost all tubes deliver the smallest distortion possible when the optimal load is somewhat higher than the one calculated, with some loss in the available power though. The output transformers are potted in a 3.2mm thick black powder coated aluminum can. The core material of the transformer is made of 29M6 EI silicon steel lamination with core surface of 25 square cm and weight almost 20 pounds!
